Are You Tired of Church?

According to The Christian Post, research shows that Americans are “tired of the usual type of church experience.” The article continues by saying that 64 percent of adults are “completely open to carrying out and pursuing their faith in an environment or structure that differs from that of a typical church.”

The article does not define what a typical church is, but this information does not surprise me at all. Society changes rapidly, but sometimes it seems like the church is slow to catch up with society. Why are some churches scared to evolve?

Look at all of the species on plants and animals. Look at all of the beautiful landscapes across the world. We serve a creative God. Why would we think it is his desire to leave creativity out of our church services?

Some people will say that the word of God doesn’t and shouldn’t change. They also say that “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” That is nice,  but I serve a God who is unconventional, creative and cutting edge. I’m not saying that any church should be of the world and follow the world. Actually, I would love it if Christians and “the church” were leaders in creativity and innovation.

Don’t get me wrong. Bringing glory to God and effectively communicating the word of God should be the goals in every church service. Those elements should not be sacrificed for the sake of creativity. However a little creativity can go a long way to help more effectively communicate God’s word.

Are you tired of church as usual? Do you think some churches should look to change they way they deliver God’s message?

I agree with this article wholeheartedly! I have felt like the format of church, in general, has become so common place that even the devil knows what is going to happen next. The monotony drives me crazy and I’m a part of my local church’s Praise Team (go figure). It is time for us, as the Church, to get into the true flow of God and to stop limiting Him in our services.
