After watching the latest episode of BET’s Sunday Best, I am left completely confused. Latice Crawford, Y’Anna Crawley and Jessica Reedy were all brought back for Episode 9 because the judges could not decide between them.
They were each given the same song to sing for this episode, Yes Jesus Loves Me. It would be fair for all of us to assume that since they were viewed equally, that this performance would be the deciding factor on who gets eliminated.
In my humble opinion, Latice Crawford got absolutely robbed. Her performance was far and away better than the other two contestants. She should be moving on to the finale, but she got eliminated instead. I know I’m not an multi-award winning gospel artist like the judges, but on that night Latice Crawford was better than Jessica Reedy and Y’Anna Crawley.
As a result of what I heard and saw, I am left to believe that the decision was not solely based on who had the best rendition of Yes Jesus Loves Me. I know the judges took other things into account. I’m pretty sure they prayed and sought God for an answer. I’m also fairly confident that they thought about how each contestant would fit into the industry.
I can’t say I fault them for any of these reasons. However, if that is the case, then why did they bring all three contestants back in the first place? Why didn’t they just eliminate Latice last week? Was the decision based around programming? Did they need to make sure that a certain number of episodes aired?
Let me just throw this out there. Coming into Episode 9, Latice Crawford was not my favorite contestant. I continue to believe that Jessica Reedy will win the whole thing.
If you twisted my arm, I would have told you that I thought it was Y’Anna Crawley’s time to go. I still believe that no matter who matter who wins, the Lord has blessed gospel music with minimally three new artists and maybe more.
Y’Anna Crawley, Latice Crawford and Jessica Reedy are all extremely gifted. I am looking forward to seeing what God does in each one of their lives in the months to come.
