Church in Florida will host “Burn a Koran Day” on September 11

USA Today is reporting that The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church, will burn copies of the Koran to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

This church (located in Gainsville, Florida) believes that this event will serve as a stand against the “evil of Islam.” The church is even selling “Islam is the devil” T-Shirts.

In my opinion, this is wrong on so many levels. Nothing says “I love Jesus” like disrespecting another religion.

I have committed my life to following Jesus Christ. I firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way. However, I don’t believe that it is God’s desire for us to disrespect another religion.

As believers, it is important for us to remember Luke 6:27-36.

[27] “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. [29] If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. [30] Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. [31] Do to others as you would have them do to you.

If another religion had national movements where bibles were burned, Christians would be ready to wage war…a physical war.

There are much better ways to commemorate 9/11 and still send a message to people of the Islamic faith. It would be much more beneficial if we all joined together to pray for them. Let’s pray that they would come to know Jesus.

You can call me a “soft Christian.” I don’t care. Burning a Koran is flat out wrong!

You know what doesn't win people to Christ? Disrespect… how can they expect others to listen when they're so busy sharing hatred versus the love of God. Hate=fear/distrust. Love=Peace/trust.

Oh Lord! I understand the pain of these people for their loved ones. But are they going to get rid of it by doing silly things like this one….

Great post. This event is a shame on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 12 [where Paul is drawing on Jesus' teaching, quoted above]:
“… Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.,,,”

I think the preacher has every right to do this. After all, don't they burn our flag and we have to watch it on our liberal news stations. Wish I had a copy and I would burn it on my front lawn here in Kansas Ron

I think that is a GREAT IDEA…… They burn our Flag, they behead our people. They think they are the only ones whom should have religion. I feel sorry for all of those whom think this is so wrong. What about all the people whom have died because of the Koran! And if I lived in New York I would take it upon myself to bring a pig to the ground of 9/11 and shed it's blood to keep out a Mosiac. They are wrong in so many ways but you bleeding heart feel sorry for them…… It is so disrespectful to even think of putting a Mosiac on the ground of 9/11. And heck you, bleeding hearts should go over there and tell them you are Christian and they WON”T burn the Bible it will be you as a person they will burn.
