USA Today is reporting that The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church, will burn copies of the Koran to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
This church (located in Gainsville, Florida) believes that this event will serve as a stand against the “evil of Islam.” The church is even selling “Islam is the devil” T-Shirts.
In my opinion, this is wrong on so many levels. Nothing says “I love Jesus” like disrespecting another religion.
I have committed my life to following Jesus Christ. I firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way. However, I don’t believe that it is God’s desire for us to disrespect another religion.
As believers, it is important for us to remember Luke 6:27-36.
[27] “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. [29] If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. [30] Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. [31] Do to others as you would have them do to you.
If another religion had national movements where bibles were burned, Christians would be ready to wage war…a physical war.
There are much better ways to commemorate 9/11 and still send a message to people of the Islamic faith. It would be much more beneficial if we all joined together to pray for them. Let’s pray that they would come to know Jesus.
You can call me a “soft Christian.” I don’t care. Burning a Koran is flat out wrong!
