GospelFlava.com is reporting that Karen Clark-Sheard is starting a new label called Karew Records. She also has a new album that will be released sometime this summer and I am assuming that it will be the first project on the new label.

No matter who you are, starting a new label can be quite a challenge. A lot of money is required to make a label successful. I once heard someone say, “If you want to start a record label, you might as well take your money and set it one fire instead. You will have a lot less heartache.

It is always a good thing when gospel music gets another label. There is so much unsigned talent out there. Hopefully Karen’s new label will give a few more people the opportunity to realize their dreams in music ministry.

If you are anything like me, then you are probably wondering whether Karen’s daughter and sisters will be joing her on this new label. At first thought I would say no. Kierra is with EMI and Dorinda is with GospoCentric. Those are two major labels that are already established and have proven that they can effectively market an artist. Wanting to join your mother and sister is admirable. However, I can’t blame either one of them if they decided to stay with their current labels. Twinkie and Jackie may be possibilities, but I have feeling that neither of them are in a hurry to record a new album.

No matter what artists join the label, I pray that Karen’s new label achieves much success.
