LeAndria Johnson wins season 3 of BET’s Sunday Best

Tonight was the season finale of season 3 of BET’s Sunday Best. Congratulations to LeAndria Johnson for winning the competition and the new car!

Here is a recap of the finale:

Hezekiah Walker opened the show singing Souled Out. It was a very good performance. It was consistent with that choir sound that we have come to know and love.

Each of the final two contestants performed a medley from songs that they have sang throughout the competition.

LeAndria’s medley consisted of:
I Love the Lord
He Was There All the Time
In the Midst of It All

This performance was a great ending to a spectacular season of high quality singing. Week after week her singing was consistently amazing.

Elder Goldwire McLendon’s medley consisted of:
Yes, Jesus Loves Me
The Battle is Not Yours
All Over Me, Keeping Me Alive

His performance was passionate and spirit filled. I’m paraphrasing here, but Yolanda Adams basically said that if he doesn’t win, then she would put her support behind Elder McLendon getting a CD released.

Just when I thought I couldn’t take any more, Kirk Franklin introduced Donald Lawrence. We received a great treat when the top three finalists from last year took the stage and each sang one of Donald Lawrence’s songs.

Jessica Reedy –Seasons
Latice Crawford-Encourage Yourself
Y’Anna Crawley- The Blessings of Abraham

All three ladies joined together in the end and sang Let the Word Do the Work. When most people reflect on last season, Latice Crawford often gets overlooked. In case anyone forgot, Latice reminded us that she has some serious chops.

Kim Burrell has done a great job mentoring the contestants all season. During the finale, she sang a tribute to the contestants that were eliminated. It was special! She called out many of the contestants by name and you could see that they were deeply touched by her singing.

In the end, LeAndria Johnson was announced the winner. She closed the show with her new single I Shall Leap Into My Destiny. I enjoyed the song, but I can’t wait to hear what it sounds like a couple of months from now after she has had the opportunity to practice it more.

Even though he didn’t win, Elder McLendon doesn’t have anything to be ashamed of. He did an outstanding job. I’m sure there is definitely a place in the Gospel industry for him.

Once again, congratulations to LeAndria Johnson. I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses her in the upcoming months and years.

What do you think about the outcome? Post a comment and let me know what you think.

I am so happy that LeAndria Johnson won Sunday Best. I do not think for a minute that the Elder should have been in the contest though. I did not think he was a good singer – he made some noise and got the people revved up, but nothing spectular. In all, the show was good, but the one thing that I don't get is why did the rules change that the runner up would get a cash prize also? They didn't do that in the previous years; was it because of the Elder?
I think that Yolanda Adams was too soft (she reminded me of Paul Abdul)to be a judge and really didn't have any opinons. Tina can be a little rough sometimes and Donny was okay. The original judges were the best, but I understand that sometimes change has to take place.
I do not know if i will ever watch this show again because it was not good this year and it was too short.

I am thrilled that LeAndria won; she had my vote from the very beginning when I heard her testimony and her incredible voice. But I don't agree that Elder McLendon should not have made it to the finals. He is a gifted, anointed singer and a fine example of Christian maturity. I also think the Donnie McClurkin was a terrific judge, who helped make this season so memorable and exciting; he should definitely be asked to return next season. All in all, season three was the best so far, in my opinion. It certainly was, for me, the most enjoyable and spiritually uplifting—due in large measure to some truly anointed singers, wonderful judges, and excellent musicians and backup singers. Keep up the good work, Sunday Best. Too bad the season ends so quickly.

This is not American Idol this is Gospel and you have to know the spirit and the anoiting of GOD.

I do sooooo agree. Her voice is as clear as a bell. She has a very good range too. I love that voice of hers. She doesn't need to yell and scream like Fantasia…..all the time to deliver her song. This girl is a straight up singer. She also has one of those voices like Arthea Franklin, not like she sounds like her, but you will not hear a voice like hers or Arthea very often because they both have a one in a million voice…………………..beautiful!

LeAndria Johnson, I wish you well you are a great singer. I Thank God because he knows what he is doing he is in CHARGE. Everybody gets a chance. GOD had a Blessing with all your name on it. That's one of my favor songs by Norman Hutchins. First there was Ms. Aikens, Second Ms. Crawley and you Third Ms. Johnson, you all are truly blessed. Keep up the good work and may God bless you in your singing career Ms. LeAndria Johnson. TLH. Jones from D.C.

This was the best Sunday's Best yet! Leandria was a truly anointed singer. I could feel the anointing of God as she sang. She made me cry, laugh, and get happy all at the same time. I desired more of God after hearing her sing and that is the effect “anointed” gospel should have on those who are serious about the Lord. The anointing of God breaks yokes, and it removes burdens. Her singing did just that for me. I hope to hear more of her and see her minister in song again very soon!!!! Also, the judges had the eye and ear to see who could deliver the “gospel” in song not only to entertain, but so that lives could be changed in the process. Good job Sunday's Best! It's about time!

still watching Leandria sing (HOT) bad of the chin and some on the 2010 bet sunday best when is the album coming out

It's something about God's annointing displayed while going through the fire. I feel that Leandria was the BEST out of all the other Sunday's Best contestants from the beginning.

The annointing on her was like none other. All she had to do was open her mouth and God's annointing was pouring from her heart right through the television screen. She was fantastic! God bless you Leandria, continue to stay humble and God will continue to lift you up!
