Louisiana Governor agrees to allow concealed guns in church

Be careful, because the next time you go to a church in Louisiana, one of the deacons just might be strapped!

Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal, signed a bill that will allow concealed handguns inside churches in Louisiana. Churches, synagogues and mosques that choose to have guns on the premises will need to inform congregations of the decision. Anyone carrying a weapon in church will need to take eight hours of training each year.

Sunday morning announcements just got a lot more interesting.  I can just imagine how it will go down:

“Good morning church. The youth department will be selling cake after church for $1 per slice. Next Sunday, our pastor will be preaching at 1st Friendship Baptist Church at 4:00 PM. The entire congregation is encouraged to attend. One final note, Elder Johnson is carrying a .500 Magnum revolver. No need to be alarmed. This is for your protection.”

It is sad when you think that there are churches that feel that they need this type of protection. I know that there have been recent church attacks throughout the country. I just don’t know if carrying concealed weapons will be a solution to this problem.

You can read the entire bill at www.legis.state.la.us.

What do you think? How would you feel if someone in your church was carrying a concealed weapon?

I believe some places should remain sacred, and a church should be one of them. Can't say I agree with this law at all. I'm wondering though…do you think it will cause churches to lose members? I mean, who really wants to sit next to a person who has a gun? I can imagine the double-takes a lot of mothers would give that gun holder.
