In episode 3, we saw the Sunday Best auditions move to Philadelphia. It appeared that the level of talent was much better in Philadelphia than in Detroit and Nigeria. Editing can be a little misleading at times, so there could have been some very talented people that never made it on air.
The judges for this episode were Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell and Tina Campbell. People have been criticizing the judges for being too harsh over the last couple of weeks. I think we need to remember that the purpose of the show is to entertain, not to make people feel good. If the judges simply told contestants “yes” or “no”, many people would criticize the show for being too boring.
This episode featured an interesting variety of contestants. Some of the contestants that auditioned included the youngest judge in the country (28 years old) and a woman in a motorized scooter. There was even a ten- year-old boy who was absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately, he was too young to compete in the competition.
In the end, five contestants made it to the next round. There was a Jewish gentleman that believes in Jesus. I thought he had a very nice voice. We also saw the oldest contestant in the brief history of Sunday Best. An 89-year-old man (I think) came in the audition room and gave an extremely solid performance.
Philadelphia definitely gave us a lot more diversity than any other audition location. I think a couple of Philadelphia contestants may end up being serious contenders to win the whole thing. Next week will bring a new city and a new group of contestants. I can’t wait to see what happens.
Do you watch the Philadelphia auditions? What do you think them?
