Review: Kim Burrell “No Ways Tired”

kim-burrell-no-ways-tiredHave you ever anticipated something only to be greatly disappointed when you actually received it? That is how I felt when I listened to Kim Burrell’s latest CD “No Ways Tired”. In my honest opinion, this CD is huge disappointment.

I has been 9 years since she last released a CD. Since that time, we have heard her sing with artists like Tye Tribbett and Hezekiah Walker. We have only been getting small tastes of the wonderful gift that God has blessed her with.

I get it. I get the fact that Kim Burrell is not like other gospel artists. I know that a large part of her appeal is how she has been able create a sound that sounds like a marriage between gospel and jazz. If you are in to smooth jazz and easy listening, then “No Ways Tired” may be for you.

The album features a number of remakes like No Ways Tired, I Surrender All and My Faith Looks Up to Thee. I could be wrong, but every song on the entire album felt like it was sung at the same tempo. If you are looking for some nice Christian easy listening or some soft Christian dinner music, then you should go out and buy “No Ways Tired”. If that is not what you are looking for, I strongly suggest you spend your money and time elsewhere.

Kim Burrell is immensely talented. She is one of the true treasures in gospel music. I just wish she would have given us more with this album. As much as I am disappointed with this album, I hope we don’t have to wait another 9 years until the next one.
