According to an article by The Christian Post, President Obama starts his day with prayer and devotion. I think that is great. Many people have looked for Obama to be the messiah that will save America. As foolish as that notion is, I’m happy that the President realizes that he can’t do his job without God’s help. That is a good example for us to all follow.
The article also talks about the Obama’s lack of a church home. Before becoming president, Barak Obama and his family belonged to Trinity United Church of Christ. They withdrew their membership once controversies began surfacing around the church’s pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Now that they have moved to the White House, is it feasible for the first family to have church home? Imagine what it would be like to have the Obamas walk in your church every Sunday. That would be an unbelievable distraction.
I know some of you are thinking that it would only be a distraction initially, and the congregation would adjust after a couple of weeks. I don’t think an adjustment would take place so quickly. We’re talking about a President and his family that have been placed on the largest pedestal you can imagine. I would dare say that they are worshiped by millions of people. Instead of focusing on God, many people would be focusing on the Obama family.
It doesn’t seem like a typical church life is in the cards for them. Imagine being a member at the church the Obama’s attend regularly. You would probably need to go through a metal detector before you enter the church. Along with the ushers, you can expect to see Secret Service agents standing in the isles. They may even be disguised as ushers, deacons and choir members. While you are standing to sing along with the worship team, you’ll hear a voice behind you saying, “Excuse me, you are blocking my shot.” That voice will be one of the dozens of photographers who follow the Obamas wherever they go.
While I’m sure any church would be honored to have the Obamas as members, it would be a mess. This is not like having Jay-Z and Beyonce attend your church. This would be 1,000 times more complicated. I know presidents have attended church services in the past, but those presidents were not named Barak Obama.
Here is what the Obamas might want to consider doing. They could attend church online. I know this is not the most social option, but they could get some good biblical teaching with a lot less hassle.
Another option is that they can start having services at the White House. Non-Christian Americans would probably be upset that their tax dollars are being used to fund Christian services at the White House. However, this is not a terribly bad option. The White House has tons of different people on staff. Why not have a White House pastor.

What do you think? Should the Obamas have a church home?
