Strategies for a new Christian life: Do a friend inventory

When you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, certain things in your life will change. A new Christian life means that you get to enter into this amazing relationship with God. There are so many benefits that I’d be here all day if I tried to name them all.

As a Christian, you will get a lot of things. You’ll experience love like you’ve never felt before. Unfortunately, you may need to let go of a few things also.

Whether we realize it or not, the people we hang around have a huge influence over our lives. As you begin and continue on your journey with Christ, I suggest that you seriously evaluate the people you spend a majority of your time with. It is very important that you surround yourself with people who can support your spiritual growth. Look for people that know what it means to have relationship with God.

There are people in your life that may not be committed to Christ. I’m not suggesting that you completely cut these people off. However, the time you spend with them may need to decrease.

The bible says that, “As iron sharpens iron, so one mans sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

Think about who is sharpening you right now. It impossible for rubber to sharpen iron. You will need to identify the people in your life that are “rubber” and people that are “iron”. Be careful of how you spend your time with the “rubber” people.

I know you desire to see all of your friends come to Christ. I feel the same way. The manner in which you live your life will be the greatest tool for evangelism. It will be much more effective than anything you could ever say.

Following Christ may cause you to lose some friends. It may be tough and you might experience some hurt. God will be there for you. He is more than able to fill the void of a lost friend.

What has your experience been like? Have you lost some friends since you gave your life to Christ?
