Wright was seriously injured a few months ago in a car crash that also claimed the life of his wife Betty and their 14-year-old-grandson, D.J. Wright.

There is so much that I could say about this beloved husband, father, and pastor. I can’t fully put into words the contribution he made to gospel music more specifically, choir music. His music was sung in churches all across the country. I don’t think there is a church choir director alive who hasn’t used a couple of Rev. Wright’s songs.

I will always remember Timothy Wright as the bridge. The are a group of gospel artists who are great writers, but they do not sing too often (for whatever reason). James Cleveland was one of the early “talkers” in gospel. I don’t think any body would categorize him as a great singer. I always considered Timothy Wright as the bridge from James Cleveland to artists like Kirk Franklin and Donald Lawrence. Not the best singers in the world, but they are all absolutely outstanding song writers.

This is the first in a series of posts that will I be dedicating to Timothy Wright over the next couple of days. I am truly grateful to God for the time the Rev. Wright spent on Earth. My condolences go out to the family and church family of Rev. Timothy Wright.
