The best selling Gospel of contemporary Christian album of the year is…

As the year draws to a close we are going to start seeing all types of "Best of" and "Year in Review" lists. Grammy and Stellar Awards nominees have also been released. All of these things tend to make us reflect on the events of the past year.

So, let's jump right in with our own "best" of the year 2011. The best selling Gospel or contemporary Christian album of the year is Kirk Franklin's "Hello Fear". Are you surprised by this? I'm not.

According to an article from Yahoo Music, "Hello Fear" sold 386,000 units. That makes it #53 on the list of the year's top albums. In case you're wondering, the top album of the year was "21" by Adele. That album sold 4,817,000 units.

At first glance 386,000 units and #53 on the charts is a pretty discouraging number. Especially when you consider that this was a release from arguably the most popular Gospel artist of all time.

Music sales are down across all genres. People just aren't buying entire albums as they once did. From the looks of it, people definitely aren't buying Gospel like they once did.

What to you think? Are you surprised that "Hello Fear" was the top selling album?

Not a bit surprised. Should be higher! If more people heard it more would buy it. I’m giving this to all my friends for Christmas. WHAT an album! Maybe album of the decade. More than Christian…

I agree. “Hello Fear” is a really good album. I don’t know why more people didn’t buy it.
