The best sites to listen FREE to music online

napsterI love buying music. However, what I love more is the concept of “try before you buy”. So, I decided to share what in my opinion about what I think are the 5 best sites to listen to free music online. You can listen to your favorite gospel here and the buy the CD or MP3.

1. Imeem
Imeem is a social network that allows users to connect through music. You can search through thousands of songs, videos and photos. You can also upload your own content.

The Good: You can put songs in a jukebox or quick mix and listen continuously for hours.

The Bad: Finding your way around can be a little confusing at times.

2. Pandora
I view Pandora as radio on steroids. Simply put, Pandora plays only the music you love. You can create a channel based on an artist or song and Pandora will play music related to your selection.

The Good: You get exposed to a lot of new music that you may not otherwise be exposed to.

The Bad: You are at the mercy of Pandora. You get exposed to a lot of new music that you may not otherwise be exposed to.

3. Last.fm
Last.fm builds a detailed profile of each user’s musical taste by recording details of all the songs the user listens to, either on the streamed radio stations, the user’s computer or some portable devices.

The Good: You get to connect with other like minded music consumers.

The Bad: You don’t have much control over the music you listen to.

4. Napster
Yes that Napster. The same Napster that was once the king of music piracy. In case you haven’t realized, Napster has now changed its business model. I guess they finally realized that robbing people doesn’t result in business longevity.

Napster lets you listen to thousands of songs online for free. You can also buy songs or sign up for their subscription service.

The good: Napster has an extremely large library of songs. The interface is clean and simple. You have complete control over what you want to listen to.

The bad: I wish Napster gave you the capability to create a  jukebox or playlist like some other sites. Unfortunately you only get 25 free songs per month.

5. Rhapsody
Rhapsody is a digital music service that lets you listen to whatever you want, wherever you want. You can add songs to a playlist and stream them over the Internet.

The Good: Rhapsody has a very extensive library.

The Bad: You only get 25 songs per month free. If you want to listen to more than that, then you will need to pay a subscription fee.

Do you have a favorite online music service?
