The Promises of God

Has someone ever promised you something and then turned around and broke that promise shortly after that? There are some people that just never hold up their end of the bargain. When a man or woman breaks a promise, it causes us to doubt them. Even though we know they are imperfect to begin with, we still lose faith in them.

If you are anything like me, God has promised you many things. Furthermore, if you’re anything like me, those promises have not come to pass. At this point it is sometimes easy for us to become impatient with God.

So, what do we do? Do we give up? Do we start doubting God? In times like this it is important that we remember 2 Corinthians 1:20 “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (NIV)

When we reflect on the promises of God, all we need to do is keep a YES in our spirit. YES, that family memeber I’ve been praying for will be saved. YES, my financial situation will turn around. YES, my body will be healed.

Remember Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (NIV) When God speaks, he acts. When God makes a promise, he fulfills it. I’m sure we’ve all heard this before, but God’s time is not our time.

You might wonder what causes God’s timing. Simply put, many times we are not ready to receive his promises. Our hearts, minds or spirits might not be in the right place to receive his promises. A million $1 bills won’t fit in a piggy bank. You would need a vault for that. God needs to build the vault before he can put the million dollars in.

Hold on to everything God has promised you. I know it seems like you’ve been waiting a long time, but be encouraged. Keep that YES in your spirit.
