The Stimulus Package for All Christians

No matter who you voted for or what your political views are, I think it is safe to assume that there are very few of us who are happy that the American government is increasing the country’s debt. Even if you do not live in the United States, I can’t imagine anyone being excited about their country going into further debt.

For a while there, it seemed like the number of companies of standing in line, waiting for a government handout, seemed endless. In addition, there are probably millions of Americans hoping that the government gives them money in an effort to “stimulate the economy.” Don’t get me wrong, if the government gave me a check, I definitely would not turn it away. The good thing is, that I not need it. No Christian does.

As believers, we can take great joy in knowing that God has already given us instructions for a strong economic foundation. The root of our stimulus package can be found in Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”(ASV)

The bible clearly tells us that if we give we will be blessed. I am not advocating giving purely for the sake of getting something in return. We should give out of love and the desire to help others. In tough economic times, it is easy for us to just think about ourselves and our family. Let us all remember that no matter how much some of us may have had to trim our budgets, there are many people who are less fortunate.

Giving is not just about money. We can give our time, information and resources. There will be times when people will need those things more than they need your money.

Giving is not just limited to the church. You can give to your family, to individuals in need and to charitable organizations. There are plenty of people who could benefit from what you have to offer.

If we seek God, he will direct us regarding our giving. He will tell you what to give, when to give and who to give to. If giving is not currently part of your lifestyle, I challenege you to ask God to speak to your heart regarding your giving habits. When we give out of love we will receive blessings in return.
