Thoughts on “The Best of Elder Goldwire McClendon”

A couple of years ago we watched BET's Sunday Best feature the dynamic vocal ability of LeAndria Johnson versus, what appeared to be, an ageless wonder in Elder Goldwire McClendon. LeAndria Johson went on to win the competition and become one of the top artists in Gospel music. We hadn't heard a whole lot from Elder McClendon until now.

For those of you that were waiting for an album from Elder McClendon, your wait is over. Elder McClendon has an album out entitled "The Best of Elder Goldwire McClendon." We have seen tons of artists do "best of" albums". Usually, these albums feature a collection of hits that the artist has recorded over the years.

I must say that I was quite surprised when I saw that Elder McClendon had a "best of" album. Unless I'm mistaken, he didn't have any previously recorded music. After checking out the album, I quickly realized that it wasn't truly a "best of" album. It was more like Elder McClendon sings the hits. That is what the album should have been named.

There is not an original song on the album. There is not even a song written by Elder McClendon on the album. If you listen to this album, you will discover Elder McClendon singing some classic Gospel songs like "He' All Over Me", "O Happy Day", and "Jesus Be A Fence Around Me." There are a total of 7 songs on the album.

I must say that Elder McClendon gives a very good vocal performance. His smooth and mature voice really add a nice flavor to all of the songs on the project. I just wish the project had a different name, because it is definitely not a "best of" album. If you enjoyed listening to Elder McClendon on Sunday Best, then you will enjoy this project.
