Westboro Baptist Church to Protest Elizabeth Taylor’s Funeral

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing Elizabeth Taylor's funeral. The Kansas based church is know for staging protests are hundreds of funerals over the years including the funeral of soldiers from the Iraq war.

Margie Phelps, daughter of the church's founder Fred Phelps recently announced the church's intentions on Twitter. Here are some of her comments:

"Actress Elizabeth Taylor has died. She used every gift she had to teach a proud generation how to be whores! WBC will picket her funeral."

"RIP Elizabeth Taylor is in hell as sure as you're reading this & getting mad as a wet hen. She should've obeyed God. Too late!"

It seems that Margie Phelps and the members of Westboro Baptist Church have serious issues with the way Elizabeth Taylor lived her life. Taylor was a supporter of gay rights and HIV research. In addition, it appears they aren't huge fans of having multiple marriages and engaging in sexual activity outside of marriage.

I'm not condoning divorce and I'm not condoning sex outside of marriage. I just don't believe that picketing someone's funeral and saying things like "God hates gays" or calling people "fags" is an effective strategy.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe that the mission of every church should be to point people towards Jesus Christ and to serve as many people as possible. I just don't believe that picketing funerals accomplishes either one of these ideals.

(If you have a comment about me being a soft Christian, you can insert it here)

Maybe this church should spend more time taking over their town for Jesus. Instead of using money to travel to California, they could donate that money to help feed the poor.

What do you think? Do you think it is right for this church to picket funerals.

Wow-what a bunch of ignorant people. When I read things like this it reminds me how poor the educational system is in America. It's always a bunch of backwoods hicks with 4th grade educations who seem to feel they are above others and that putting them down is someone how living by the 'word'.

I seem to remember reading the words 'love thy neighbor' in the bible. I also remember a section referring to Jesus saving a woman from being stoned to death….who was none other than a 'whore'!!!! People that preach who is going to hell will likely go themselves for turning their backs on one of God's children. I can't seem to remember a section of the bible which referred to protesting at a woman's funeral as a positive…imagine…you people should be ashamed of youselves for bringing evil agendas to a sacred memorial for a woman who has passed. No matter what she did during her life, I doubt God woudl support such a sinful and horrible action. Have fun in hell you babpitst qwaks!!!!

People can choose whatever cause that they want to support. Taylor chose to support people with HIV/Aids, that was her right. And for someone to say, “she's in hell and madder than a wet hen” was totally wrong. How would you like for someone to say something negative about you when you die? Why didn't you come forth while she was alive. We can always say negative things about people when they are gone, but why cant we say positive things. If it took someone to say something positive to keep you from going to hell would there be someone to speak up for you?

It is sad that they would resort to these types of actions, especially after she has passed. If we are to assumes that she didn't know Christ be for she died, I wonder what type of efforts this church made to reach her while she was alive.

I find Westboro Baptist Church to be appalling to say the least. If they would use their energy in the right way, maybe like others they would have been able to reach her.

Cliff, we have people that are so fake, they claim that they love the Lord so much, someone they cannot see. But hate you and me, someone they can see. What is wrong with that picture. They say Elizabeth Taylor is in hell, whats' to say that they wont wind up there also, saying Lord I'm sorry.

Everyone has the right to speech , religion, and assembly. WBC is being judgmental! That is not their job, it is God's. If they really knew the word of God, they would know better than to do such things. Telling people that their heading to HELL is plain ignorance and hypocritical. Just as you judge others you will be judged in that measure. All we can do is pray, God Bless their soul. God Bless America(:

Cliff, You are right. If the church wants to protest her funeral it’s the pastor’s fault and he will answer to God for that. Maybe the pastor didn’t talk about salvation in his messages. The Bible says that Pastors will have a stricter judgement on Judgement Day.
