What You Should Do With Your Ton3x Music

ton3xBy now you have probably heard the latest news about well known Gospel recording artist Ton3x (Tonex). If you don’t know what I am talking about, let me quickly bring you up to speed.

Ton3x recently appeared on The Lexi Show on The Word Network. In the interview, Ton3x told Lexi that he had sex with another man in the past and he continues to be attracted to men. So, there you have it. Ton3x admitted on national TV that he is gay or bisexual. While many people were shocked, there are other people who think that most male gospel artists are gay, so this news did not come as a surprise at all. I am not one of the people that think this way.

Now, it is time for you to toss out your collection of Ton3x music, right? Wrong! I would urge you to slow down before you start name calling and erasing someone from Christianity.

For the record…I firmly believe that God’s intent is for a man to be with a woman.

Why should any of us abandon our music collections just because of someone’s current lifestyle? The truth is, we don’t know what Ton3x’s lifestyle was at the time he wrote and recorded some of his music. No matter what his life was like at the time wasn’t there still truth in the words he sang? Is it possible for us to separate the man from the message? If a song lifts up the name of God, does it matter who sings the song? Can’t we still use that song to enter into the presence of the Lord?

Should we completely separate ourselves from Ton3x and his music? Think about what was going on in King David’s life when he wrote some of the Psalms. Think about how Kirk Franklin was involved in ministry even though he was battling a pornography addiction. I think that if we really knew what was going on in the lives of some of gospel artists and other ministers, we might initially be inclined to throw away a lot of CDs and DVDs.

I’m not saying that any of us should immediately book Ton3x to come and preach at our church. However, as our brother in Christ we should continue to keep him in our prayers and not just write him off. I won’t be praying that Ton3x stops being attracted to men. I’ll be praying that God’s will be done in his life

As much as we all try, none of us fully understands the thoughts of God. He may be taking Ton3x through this for a specific purpose. I encourage you to pray and allow the Lord to lead you from there.

In case you didn’t see the interview between Ton3x and Lexi you can watch all three parts below.

Let me know what you think about Ton3x and his interview with Lexi.

…well thought out and written. Perfection eludes all of us and truthfully, we all struggle with something. Gospel artists are no exception. (Rom 11: 29 …For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance)

Tonex is unrepentant as he’s shown in the interview with Lexi. He doesn’t desire deliverance and doesn’t believe he’s struggling yet wanting to hold onto God’s grace and forgiveness. The scriptures command us not to have anything to do with fellow Christians who continue to practice in ungodliness. (1 Corinthians 5:9-13) I’d take that to mean not buying their records either!

True love sometimes means harshness in dealing with the truth. If we truly love Tonex then we should all collectively close the door on him but if his heart breaks to the point that he no longer wants to continue in the sin and seeks deliverance, then at that point we should take him back with open arms – and wallets!

PS – I like your blog theme – the same as mine! :)

Why should we throw his music away for something he’s doing now -vs- when he wrote the music he wasn’t doing it? Why don’t we ripp out the part where peter denies Christ or when Thomas doubts him or when david had urijah killed or when solomon took 700 wives & backslid never repenting? Guess what I’m not a Tonex fan I may like 1 or 2 of his songs. Keep exposing his lies with the truth. The person now is not the person then. You pray he comes to his senses the body judges the body but God judges the world.

I wondn’t buy any of his new music exp the one with silence of the lamb on it. but his prev stuff if i bought it i wouldn’t throw out the key is what he’s doing now I wouldn’t support him. And based on his 2nd interview his did on youtube, this brotha needs serious help and belives he’s in the write. this is why we all must stay prayed & fasted up. Compare him and carlton pearson & in their own eyes they think they are right…..

I must commend Lexi for doing a fantastic job as a Journalist, and as a Christian. There was an atmosphere of peace which allowed a great interview. “Great Job Lexi.” There is not much you can say regarding Tonex’s thought or opinions. I am absolutely sure he knows what he is doing. He understands the truth and he understands his consequences regarding a relationship between him and God. He left no room for anyone to say “you’re wrong brother.” Simply, because he has made it clear that he understands the expectations of God. I believe at this point it would take concerted effort from the Body of Christ to love this brother back. He knows where he stands with God, and he’s willing to risk his self generated opinion to live the life he has decided upon, but where stands with the Body of Christ and what he has experienced so far allows him to remain isolated to an extent. Yes, I believe the stand he has decided to take will affect the ministry of truth just little. Because many look for a way to live their own life without boundaries, and if they want God then: the scriptures say if you love me you will do what I say. However, he is a perfect example of the what the word says, “You can’t do anything against the truth but be for it.” Right now, he chooses to live in contrast. We can only Pray.

oh my…what a lie…it's shocking. You are not struggling with homosexuality you sit comfortably in it? What Bible are we reading? It's not bigger than any other sin. You who is homosexual are sinning the same as i who lie. The same Lord who said that a man shall not lie with another man and condemns effeminacy as well also said don't steal, don't fornicate, don't covet etc. i am not perfect but i am definitely uncomfortable when i sin and i'm struggling with my sins that the word has revealed as such so that i can break free from them, lest i be condemned on the day of judgement. I am seeking to walk in perfection before God not sitting comfortably in my sin as revealed by His word. I really hope as i write this that Tonex has changed his mind about homosexuality and is now uncomfortable and seeking deliverance from it.
